Scrapbook with hand cut and die cut Cards and Prints Collage style ExcellantCondition, 1876, Handcut:CardsCalendersPrintsVerySophistated. This scrapbook was put together by. Evangaline Melick and sisters from Hunterdon County NJ in the late 1870s.You will find her signature on one of the pages. Their humor and sharp minds have created pages that capture the daily lives in a rural town and topics of importance in the nation and in communitys all across America at the time. It is a wonderful glimpse into the minds of young girls who are thinking of romance and yet still attached to the simple fun of cats and dogs. This book was created by sisters for their own private enjoyment. The 44 pages are made from a heavy stock paper and alternate from pink to white.
They are all in excellent condition with no clipped corners 2-3 pages staining to speak of and all are firmly attached to the binding you will see one photo that illustrates that. The cover has a large cutout of a young girl and silver and gold paint on the lily. On the inside of the front and back covers they continue their cutouts on all 44pages. Their scissor skills can be seen in several of the collages these are very well done and you will need to rub your fingers over them to know they are all individually cut pieces.Their placement of the colors and shapes and subject matter are beautifully done and have wonderful little messages woven.
