This is an extremely RARE Victorian era hot plate that may also have been used as a cutting board. It is double tiled and the tiles are mounted on a cast iron frame that is able to be attached to a surface via four large bolt or screw holes that extend from the base.
One of the tiles is more worn than the other and there are a few chips but the tiles are beautiful period pieces where the colouring in particular is reminiscent of Van Gogh's sunflower series from around that period 1850 - 1900. The cast iron frame has a split on one side but is absolutely 100% rock solid.
Engraved underneath the cast iron is the word'Top' as well as a serial number which reads'No 1263' This piece measures 32 cm x 16.5 cm with the bolt attachments extending out another 2 cm. Its total weight is 2.6 kg. The item "Antique Hot Plate/Cutting Area (Tiled) Cast Iron Frame 19th Century (RARE)" is in sale since Monday, January 13, 2020.
